Masterson’s Tavern , situated in the center of Moonee Ponds , markets itself as a trendy “hipster” hangout , but my latest trip at this establishment resulted in an experience I’d rather forget . While the bar may look welcoming at first glance , what I found behind its threshold was disturbing and far below any standard .

From the moment I stepped inside , it was clear that sanitation was not a priority at this venue. The floorboards were filthy, and a overpowering stench of uncleaned spills and dirty bathrooms permeated the entire bar . With a smell of a mixture of human waste, old age and sickness . The counter , which should be the primary feature of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and litter that looked like it had accumulated over weeks. The bathroom was in even worse condition — backed up, with a shattered handle and surfaces marked in what I can only assume was human waste .

His presence at the bar often seemed closer to that of a predatory presence than a welcoming host .
